Anthony Blake é um mágico muito compassivo e rico, que usa seus talentos como ilusionista e artista de fuga para ajudar pessoas em apuros. Max Pomeroy, um amigo que é colunista sindicalizado, descreve-o como "um dos poucos indivíduos nesta era de entorpecimento, que ainda pode considerar o sofrimento de outro ser humano como seu." Ele está motivado a ajudar porque foi falsamente preso na América do Sul por espionagem.
