Na história do anime, um jovem engenheiro chamado Tetsurō Okino, que desenvolveu o novo robô Bullbuster, é transferido para a Hato Industries, uma empresa que extermina animais nocivos. Lá, a empresa e seu presidente Kōji Tajima enfrentam uma misteriosa forma de vida chamada "Kyojū". Como uma pequena empresa que está sempre com pouco dinheiro, Hato deve sempre contabilizar todas as despesas, como combustível e mão de obra do piloto. E, claro, tiros perdidos não são tolerados. A empresa está sempre presa entre seus ideais de extermínio de Kyōju e a realidade da economia.
