A história começa no século 22, quando a humanidade é forçada a migrar para outros planetas devido a superpopulação na Terra. Em uma dessas naves migratórias, a Mesopotâmia, sofre uma pane em seu sistema e cai em um planeta inabitado. Todos os 6 tripulantes são homens e com a nave quebrada, estão impossibilitados de voltar para o espaço. A partir daí, eles resolvem ficar naquele planeta e perpetuar a espécie através da clonagem, misturando seus próprios genes. Os tripulantes se espalham pelo planeta e fundam cidades de acordo com a suas origens: Japoneses(Japão), Romana(Itália), Seian(China), Germania(Alemanha), Petelburg(Rússia) e Novo Texas(EUA). 300 anos depois da queda, o protagonista, Mamiya Otaru, um simples garoto que vive nesse mundo repleto de homens e aonde, as únicas mulheres, são marionettes criadas pelos homens. Ao contrário da maioria da população, ele trata as marionettes com respeito e carinho.
